We believe that MCCOYC is all about you, the youth! To that end, this year we are offering the opportunity for youth to participate in workshops that are practical, fun, and relevant to their everyday lives. Check out the topics for the workshops below, and sign up for your preferred topic before spots close!
Due to the popularity of the workshops last year, we are having TWO workshop sessions this year, and you can register for two topics of your choice this year!
Please select TWO workshops to attend this year!
Social Justice: “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to me.” What does this even mean? Have I yet loved? What does it mean to love my brother? We hear all the time that in Christianity, we have to love our fellow man and that if we want to follow Christ we must “Go, sell your possessions, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven…” But what does that even mean? How does that help us and others? In this workshop we will discuss the importance of social justice from the Christian point of view and how we can apply it to our daily life.
An Orthodox Understanding of Mental Health: Mental health is slowly becoming a mainstream “hot topic”, but it is hardly discussed as pertinent to our everyday lives as Coptic Orthodox Christians. We will break the taboo and discuss the importance of living both a mentally and physically healthy lifestyle throughout all areas of our lives. This workshop will help you understand the silent crisis around us and what we, as Orthodox Christians, can do about it.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S.: Our friends mean a lot to us. They comfort us, make us feel loved, and can be there for us during the tough times… they’re great. Friendship isn’t always a walk in the park, though. Sometimes there are those rough times… those times we get in fights, those times where we’re “not good” etc. What do we do when we’re “not good”? What about people that I’m not close with, or not friends with… how do I talk to them? How do I communicate with them? In this workshop we’re going to discover how we best communicate with others, and take a closer look at the importance of building relationships with all those around us.
Coptic Identity: WHO AM I?! Am I Coptic? Am I Egyptian? Sam I am??? We take so much pride in being Coptic Orthodox and how great our church is…but do we even know what that means? Sometimes it feels like our culture is a part of our faith… but do we need to be Egyptian to be Orthodox? The bottom line is: we have to OWN our identity! In this workshop we’re going to look at what is means to be Coptic Orthodox, why it’s important we understand it, and why our identity as Copts in one of the biggest blessings God had granted us.
